STAC BOYS SOCCER: UNBEATEN OWEGO TOPS MOUNTAIN VIEW, 2-1 (2024-10-12)
Tioga County Sports ReportOWEGO — Unbeaten Owego scored a pair of second-half goals to post a 2-1 win over Mountain View here Saturday morning in non-league boys soccer action.
“It was great to face a quality opponent from Pa,” said Owego coach Alessio De Michele.
“I think we had a little bit of a slow start, but started to find our rhythm and created a lot of chances.
“It’s great to keep our momentum going before our STAC semifinal, where we know we will have to raise our game another level,” added De Michele.
After a scoreless first half, Danny Tavelli, off an assist from Zyir VanScoy, put Owego on the board about two minutes after the intermission.
Vasil Brich, off a feed from Jaxson Belokur, added an insurance goal midway through the second half to make it 2-0.
Mountain View spoiled the clean sheet with a goal with 2 minutes remaining.
Owego, now 13-0, returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Seton Catholic in the regular-season finals.
On Wednesday night, the River Hawks host Maine-Endwell in the semifinals of the STAC Championships.
