SECTION IV FIELD HOCEY: SVEC AVENGES EARLY-SEASON LOSS; TOPS WALTON, 1-0 (24 PHOTOS) (2024-10-11)

Tioga County Sports Report
SPENCER — Megan Williamson scored the game’s lone goal to lift SVEC to a 1-0 win over Walton here Friday afternoon in Section IV, Division III field hockey action.

The win avenges a 4-2 loss to the Warriors earlier this season.

“We scored on a beautiful passing sequence,” said SVEC coach Abby Gentile. “We have been working hard this year trying to put passes together and finishing inside the circle. I was thrilled to see them execute today.

“Our defense also stepped up,” she noted. “Walton put the pressure on by forcing us to commit fouls inside the defensive circle and give up corners to them.

“Our defensive corner unit and goalie did a great job keeping the ball out of the goal tonight,” added Gentile.

After more than 40 minutes of scoreless action, Williamson scored off an assist from Dallas Bohling to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead with 4:26 remaining in the third quarter.

The SVEC defense put the clamps on the Warriors to preserve the victory.

The win also came on Senior Night for the Eagles, who improve to 6-8.

“We celebrated our seniors: Lily Kunzman, Aubrey Catablan, and Katelyn Klym,” said Gentile. “It was nice to get them a win on their Senior Night.”

SVEC had a 13-7 advantage in shots-on-goal, while Walton had a 13-2 edge in penalty corners

Senior Katelyn Klym recorded four saves in the cage for the Eagles.

SVEC returns to action Tuesday at Owego.
