STAC VOLLEYBALL: OWEGO SHAKES OFF SLOW START IN SWEEP OF ONEONTA (2024-10-10)

Tioga County Sports Report
ONEONTA — Owego escaped the first set with a win, and cruised to a sweep of Oneonta to remain unbeaten here Thursday night in STAC volleyball action.

The first time these two teams met, Owego won all three sets by two points (25-23, 26-24 and 26-24). It looked like a repeat performance was in store after the River Hawks won the first set 26-24, but they settled in and won the next two sets by the identical score of 25-14.

“We started off the match slow, but once we started connecting as a team, there was really no stopping us,” said Owego coach Abby Manning.

“We are a solid passing team, which helps our offense immensely,” added Manning. “We need to continue working and being consistent when it comes to serve and pass.”

Lexi Herceg led Owego with 22 setter assists, and three aces, while Shannon Maslin had three aces, 12 digs, and three assists, and Maggie Hamed registered 16 kills.

Sofia Silvanic recorded six digs for the River Hawks, while Evelyn Howe had six kills, and Logan Georgia registered three blocks.

Owego, now 12-0, returns to action Saturday at the Dryden Tournament.
