SPENCER — Four different players found the net, and Noah Banks dished out three assists, in SVEC’s 4-1 non-league boys soccer win over Waverly here Thursday afternoon.

“This was a positive performance for our team,” said SVEC coach Jason Banks.

“Waverly has had some good games lately so we knew they were looking to come in and keep improving on their season.

“The coaching staff wanted to use this game as a springboard into the postseason, so we were trying some players in different roles and the players responded well to it,” added Banks.

“Overall, we got out worked,” said Waverly coach Jon Rankin.

“We struggled to make needed adjustments and play the ball well,” he noted. “Our back line was getting hit hard over and over again so it was a matter of time before something happened.

“Despite the hardships, the team played well together,” added Rankin. “We played a very physical game and played well together, (but) SVEC was able to capitalize off of their build.”

Banks, off a feed from Kyle Jantz, scored midway through the first half to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead, which it carried into the halftime intermission.

It took nearly 40 minutes for the Eagles to find the net again. Claas Huenecke, off an assist from Banks, made it 3-0 midway through the second half.

Lantz and Javier Loriga Baillo scored goals — both assisted by Banks — in a two-minute span to make it 4-0 with six minutes remaining in the contest.

Andrew Larrabee scored an unassisted goal with 2 minutes left in the game to put Waverly on the board.

SVEC closes out the regular season Tuesday at Newark Valley.
