Tioga County Sports Report
MARATHON — SVEC pulled out a 3-2 win over Marathon here Tuesday afternoon to win its first-ever Section IV Conference, Division 2 field hockey title as a combined program.

Prior to the merge, S-VE’s last division title was 1994.

“I am so proud of how these girls have come together this year,” said SVEC coach Abby Gentile.

“With only 11 players, the pressure has been on each individual to step up, which they have done,” noted Gentile. “They show so much heart and aren’t afraid to work.”

Megan Williamson, off an assist from Dallas Bohling, scored early in the second quarter to give SVEC a 1-0 lead, which it carried into the halftime locker room.

Audrey Ensign scored for Marathon less than two minutes after the intermission to tie game at 1-1.

Two minutes later, Kendall Gentile found the back of the cage to put SVEC up 2-1 with 11:21 remaining in the third quarter.

Williamson scored again with 6:23 remaining to give the Eagles up 3-1.

Ensign scored again with 35.8 seconds remaining to provide the final margin.

Marathon had an 11-6 advantage in shots-on-goal an 8-7 edge in penalty corners.

Katelyn Klym recorded seven saves in net for the Eagles.

SVEC, now 5-8, returns to action Friday when it hosts Walton.
