IAC GIRLS SOCCER: NEWARK VALLEY RALLIES, BUT FALLS TO TIOGA, 3-2, IN OVERTIME (2024-10-03)
Tioga County Sports ReportNEWARK VALLEY — Newark Valley struck for two goals in the second half to tie the game, but Tioga scored early in overtime to pull out a 3-2 win here Thursday afternoon in IAC South girls soccer action.
Erica Bradley gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead about 4 1/2 minutes into the game with a free kick from 45 yards out.
The Tigers maintained the 1-0 advantage until Grace Howey, off a feed from Bradley, scored with 29:40 remaining in regulation.
Five minutes later, Adrianna Finta sparked a Cardinal comeback with her first goal to close the gap to 2-1. Finta won a goal kick, and beat multiple defenders to get off a shot that sailed into the back of the net.
With 15:34 remaining, Finta struck again, converting a penalty kick to tie the game at 2-2.
Both teams had opportunities to score in the closing minutes of regulation, but could not convert.
With 7:10 remaining in the 10-minute overtime period, Howe took a feed down the middle of the field, and scored the game-winner.
Both teams had 16 shots-on-goal, and Newark Valley had a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
Newark Valley, now 6-4, returns to action Monday at Newfield.
