STAC GIRLS' SWIMMING & DIVING: KATCHUK SETS DIVING RECORD; OWEGO TOPS ELMIRA IN FINAL EVENT (2024-10-03)
Tioga County Sports ReportELMIRA — It was a record-setting night for the Owego swimming and diving team as they edged the Elmira Express 92-91 on Thursday night.
Kaelyn Katchuk established a new six-dive pool record at Elmira. Katchuk won with a score of 342.70, breaking the old pool record of 315.60 set in 2023 by Corning’s Brooke Terwilliger.
Owego’s Ayla Young was second in the event with a score of 258.60. Ellie Johnson of Elmira was third at 157.50.
Owego went first and third in the final event, the 400 free relay, to win by one, 92-91.
Elmira led 89-82 going into the last event when Ava Murphy, Sawyer Pratt, Cecilia Clair and Sophia Lee won in 4:13.53, and Riley Wold, Kaiah Malmstrom, Elizabeth Williams and Natalie Nowetner took third in 4:51.37 to wrap up the victory.
In the 200 medley relay Owego’s Lee, Olivia Schrader, Williams and Clari won in 2:11.34.
In the 200 free Pratt won in 2:26.66 with Elmira’s Maren Novotny (2:28.26) and Leah Church (2:31.70) taking the next two spots.
Murphy won the 200 IM in 2:33.42 followed by Elmira’s Madelyn Cavalier (2:37.07) and Aubrey Newkirk (2:46.78).
Lee won the 50 free in 26.10 followed by Elmira’s Ava Sherman (28.33) and Eleanor Hagan (30.28).
Murphy won the 100 fly in 1:06.95 followed by Cavalier (1:08.49) and Bridget Hagan of Elmira (1:20.39).
Lee won the 100 free in 1:00.89 followed by Pratt (1:07.18) and Church (1:07.41).
Sherman won the 500 in 6:23.64 followed by Schrader (6:33.23) and Payton Dotts of Elmira (6:57).
Wold, Schrader, Pratt and Murphy won the 200 free relay in 1:56.41 and Dotts won the 100 back in 1:19.97 followed by Elmira’s Scarlett Hollenbeck (1:21.01) and Williams (1:21.13).
Novotny won the 100 breaststroke in 1:25.76 followed by Schrader (1:25.91) and Aubrey Newkirk of Elmira (1:29.62).
