IAC BOYS SOCCER: VanKNAPEN, WILLIAMS LEAD NEWARK VALLEY TO 6-2 WIN OVER TIOGA (24 PHOTOS) (2024-10-02)
Tioga County Sports ReportTIOGA CENTER — T.J. VanKnapen and Elijah Williams combined for five goals to lead Newark Valley to a 6-2 win over Tioga here Wednesday night in IAC boys soccer action.
Jace Schanbacher, off a feed from Brady Landmesser, put Tioga up 1-0 with a goal in the 12th minute.
In the 21st minute, Williams scored off a feed from Bela Krenner to tie the game at 1-1, and VanKnapen scored about 4 1/2 minutes later to give the Cardinals the lead for good, at 2-1.
With 5:30 remaining in the first half, VanKnapen scored again to make it 3-1.
VanKnapen finished off his hat trick about one minute into the second half to extend the Cardinal lead to 4-1.
Landmesser scored on a free kick with 26 minutes remaining in the contest to close the gap to 4-2.
Kenner and Williams added goals in a four-minute span to make it 6-2 midway through the second half.
Krenner had two assists for the Cardinals, while Travis Middendorf, Williams, Brandon Enyon, and Vince Finta each had one assist.
Newark Valley had a 30-4 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
Tioga’s David VanDusen recorded 13 saves in net for the Tigers, while James Wales had two saves for the Cardinals.
Newark Valley returns to action Friday when it hosts Newfield.
