IAC CROSS COUNTRY: NEWARK VALLEY BOYS AND GIRLS EACH WIN QUAD MEET; SVE AND CANDOR ALSO FIND SUCCESS (2024-10-02)

SPENCER — The Newark Valley girls and boys cross country teams each won a quad meet on Wednesday, while host Spencer Van-Etten was second for boys and third for girls. Candor was the boys runner-up.

Newark Valley’s boys won at 23 points, followed by SVE at 36.

Marcos Escalante of Newark Valley won at 20:15.59 and Eddie Rixford of SVE was next in 20:17.79. Newark Valley’s Leland Houston took third at 20:36.02 and Camden King of Newark Valley was fifth in 21:54.98.

Zach Paucke of SVE was sixth in2 2:52.22 followed by Candor’s Gage Maxwell in 24:01.81 and SVE’s Lincoln Jones in 25:17.30. Newark Valley’s Hunter Tyrell (25:24.62) and Reese Illsley (26:05.77) rounded out the top 10.

Newark Valley’s Rhyley Payne was 11th in 26:19.37 followed by Candor’s James Kane (26:39.11) and Andrew Lelik of Newark Valley (26:40.22) and SVE’s Kenric Beach (27:16.93).

SVE’s Jayden Stone was 15th in 27:45.76 followed by teammates William Horycum (28:32.66) and Kaiden Shock (31:23.99) and Anthony Wintertime (35:19.76) and Kevin VanDerpoel (36:25.84).

For the girls Newark Valley was at 27, followed by Candor (45), SVE (52) and Tioga (104).

For the girls Newark Valley’s Brook Illsley won at 24:30.15 followed by SVE’s Madelyn Ellison (24:42.41) and Newark Valley’s Olivia Vaughn (25:28.20). Candor’s Emma Haynes was fourth in 25:34.16 followed by teammate Kristin Baker (25:49.41) and Leah Lansing (27:35.4) and Mallory Gregrow of Newark Valley (28:23.72).


Candor’s Ayasha Schweiger was eighth in 28:39.94 followed by teammate Zoey Lang (28:51.59) and Newark Valley’s Emily LaPorte (28:54.14).

Ashley Ellison of SVE was 11th in 29:06.98 followed by teammates Kaylee-May Davidson (29:15.28); Brooke Ryan (29:19.72), Lilie Stevens (29:25.57) and Katelynn Jayne (29:42.47). Newark Valley’s Elle Webb was next in 29:58.52.

Candor’s Bella Matisco was 19th in 33:14.61 followed by teammate Emma Fey (33:26.93) and Kaitlyn Bohne of Newark Valley (33:31.32) and teammate Charlotte Vaughn (33:31.76).

For modified girls only Tioga had a complete team.

Candor’s Vesper Weisz won the modified girls race in 12:09 and her teammate Bianca Lopez was fourth in 13:06.

Nora McCann of Newark Valley was fifth in 13:11 and Lilli Horyczun of SVE was seventh in 14:14. Nora Roth of Newark Valley was 10th in 15:56. Candor’s Ellie Lower was 11th in 16:10 followed by SVE’s Mackenzie Rose in 17:09 and Newark Valley’s Eleanor Escalante in 17:25. Rebecca Kelsey of Newark Valley was 18th in 23:13.

For modified boys only SVE had a complete team.

Candor’s Ethan Eiklor won in 10:20 followed by teammate Declan Shaw in 11:01 and Newark Valley’s Sheldon Houston (11:04) and Jacob Elliott (11:06). Candor’s Orion Haltom was fifth in 11:27 followed by SVE’s Caleb Paucke (12:03) and Kellen Williamson (12:18).

SVE’s Brady Ryan was ninth in 12:34 followed by SVE’s Tristan Jennings (12:38), Gavin GilMartin of Newark Valley (13:00), Casady Blankenship of SVE (15:31) and teammate Damon Tubbs (15:55).
