IAC BOYS SOCCER: HUENECKE'S FIVE GOALS POWERS SVEC TO 6-1 WIN OVER WATKINS GLEN (13 PHOTOS) (2024-10-02)
Tioga County Sports ReportSPENCER — Claas Huenecke scored five goals, four of them assisted by Kyle Jantz, to lead SVEC to a 6-1 win over Watkins Glen here in IAC South Large School Division boys soccer action on a rainy Wednesday afternoon.
"Watkins (Glen) started the game fast and put us behind early,” said SVEC coach Jason Banks. “After that wake-up call, the boys pulled together to create a few quality scoring chances."
“In the second half, the team did a much better job of moving the ball and putting Watkins under pressure,” he added.
Jude Santos scored early in the game to put the Lake Hawks up 1-0, but Huenecke, off a feed from Jason Jantz, answered to tie the game at 1-1, then scored again, off an assist from Kyle Jantz, to make it 2-1 at the half.
Huenecke scored the Eagles’ first two goals of the second half, both from Kyle Jantz, to extend the lead to 4-1.
Kyle Jantz, off an assist from Noah Banks, made it 5-1 with a goal, and the Huenecke-Kyle Jantz combo connected again for the final goal.
SVEC had a 16-6 advantage in shots-on-goal.
Sirron Irvin had five saves in net for the Eagles.
SVEC, now 7-2, returns to action Friday at Notre Dame.
