IAC GIRLS SOCCER: FINTA'S GOAL IN FINAL MINUTE LIFTS NEWARK VALLEY TO 1-0 WIN OVER SOUTHERN CAYUGA (12 PHOTOS) (2024-10-01) Tioga County Sports Report NEWARK VALLEY — Adrianna Finta scored the game’s only goal with 28 seconds remaining in the contest to lift Newark Valley to a 1-0 win over Southern Cayuga here Tuesday afternoon in IAC girls soccer crossover action.
After more than 79 minutes of scoreless action, Finta collected the ball about 40 yards from the goal, dribbled past several defenders, split two more as cut toward the center of the field, and unleashed a shot into the lower-left corner of the net, just out of the reach of the Southern Cayuga’s diving keeper.
Southern Cayuga had a 9-8 edge in shots-on-goal, but NV keeper Anika Smith recorded seven saves in the clean sheet.
Newark Valley, now 6-3, returns to action Thursday when it hosts Tioga.
