STAC GIRLS SWIMMING: KATCHUK CONTINUES TO BREAK RECORDS; LEE, MURPHY PACE OWEGO'S EFFORTS AT M-E INVITE (2024-09-28)
Tioga County Sports ReportOWEGO / ENDWELL — Senior Kaelyn Katchuk continues to break records, Saturday setting a new 11-dive pool record here at the Fourth Annual Owego Diving Invitational, while junior Sophia Lee and sophomore Ava Murphy paced Owego’s efforts at the Maine-Endwell Invite.
Katchuk’s total of 546 points, eclipsed the previous pool and meet record mark of 539.15 points set by Ithaca’s Ayla Bonniwell in 2014.
It’s the second week in a row Katchuk has set meet and pool record. She established the new mark of 561.85 points at the Watkins Glen Diving Invitational last Saturday.
Owego freshman Ayla Young placed second with 415.65 points, and Ithaca’s Jessica Swart was third with 409.75 points.
All three divers have qualified for the New York State Diving Championships at Webster High School on Nov. 22.
LEE, MURPHY PACE OWEGO’S EFFORTS AT M-E INVITEMaine-Endwell claimed the team title with 523 points, while Vestal was second with 454, Chenango Valley was third with 349, U-E was fourth with 211 points, and Owego was fifth with 190 points.
Lee finished third in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:06.35, and Murphy was fifth in 1:06.85.
Murphy finished third in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:12.33, while sophomore Liz Williams was 10th in 1:18.4, and freshman Maura Wilburn was 15th in 1:30.53.
Lee and Murphy teamed with junior Olivia Schrader, and freshman Sawyer Pratt to finish third in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:52.31.
Lee, Murphy, and Schrader teamed with sophomore Cecilia Clair to finish fourth in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:05.04.
Lee finished eighth in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:23.51, while Schrader was ninth in 2:25.42, and Pratt was 10th in 2:28.87.
Schrader was 10th in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 6:36.78, while Pratt was 14th in 6:59.06, Clair was 15th in 6:59.2, and freshman Kaiah Malmstrom was 16th in 6:59.73.
Sophomore Riley Wold was 16th in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:12.39.
Owego returns to action Tuesday at Chenango Valley.
