SECTION IV FIELD HOCKEY: STEELE'S GOAL LIFTS OWEGO TO 1-0 WIN OVER WALTON (2024-09-28)

WALTON — Ashleigh Steele scored the game’s lone goal midway through the third quarter to lift Owego to a 1-0 win over Walton here Saturday afternoon in Section IV field hockey action.

“It was another close battle, with (Ashleigh) Steele finding the back of the cage the difference,” said Owego coach Ashlee Marsh.

‘It was a great team effort, offensively and defensively,” added Marsh.

Steele connected with 8:39 remaining in the third quarter.

Owego had a 3-1 advantage in shots-on-goal, and Walton had a 5-4 edge in penalty corners.

Lillie Kneller recorded one save in net for the River Hawks.

Owego returns to action Tuesday at Afton-Harpursville.
