IAC GIRLS SOCCER: TIOGA FENDS OFF NEWARK VALLEY IN 2-1 WIN (6 PHOTOS) (2024-09-27)
Tioga County Sports ReportTIOGA CENTER — Tioga scored early in the second half, and then fended off an aggressive Newark Valley attack for the final 30-plus minutes of the game in a 2-1 win here Friday in IAC girls soccer here Friday night at Haggerty Field.
Sophia Haney scored midway through the first half to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead, but it was a short-lived advantage as Adrianna Finta just 81 seconds later to make it 1-1.
About 8 1/2 minutes into the second half, Eric Bradley drove a direct kick from about 30 yards out into the back of the net over the outstretched arms of the NV keeper to make it 2-1.
Newark Valley had a 14-11 edge in shots-on-goal. Tioga had a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.
Anika Smith had four saves in net for the Cardinals, and Taliah Speer recorded nine for the Tigers.
Newark Valley, now 5-3, hosts Southern Cayuga Tuesday.
