SECTION IV FIELD HOCKEY: SVEC PLAYS VESTAL TOUGH IN 3-0 SETBACK (2024-09-26)
Tioga County Sports ReportSPENCER — Vestal scored a pair of second-quarter goals in a 3-0 win over SVEC here Thursday afternoon in Section IV field hockey action.
“We played a really good game tonight being able to get corners and shots,” said SVEC coach Abby Gentile.
“We had a slight lull in the second quarter where Vestal was able to use their speed to put a couple goals into the net,” she noted.
“I am really proud of all the players,” added Gentile. “Everyone stepped their game up from Tuesday’s 5-0 loss to Deposit-Hancock.”
Freshman Helene Ryan scored twice in the second quarter, and sophomore Allie Policare added an insurance goal later in the game for Vestal, which improves to 6-2 on the season.
Vestal had a 14-5 advantage in shots-on-goal. SVEC had an 8-7 advantage in penalty corners
Katelyn Klym registered 10 saves in the cage for the Eagles.
SVEC, now 1-8, returns to action Friday when it hosts Newark Valley.
