IAC BOYS SOCCER: T-BURG EDGES SVEC, 2-0 (11 PHOTOS) (2024-09-26)
Tioga County Sports ReportSPENCER — Trumansburg scored late in the first half, then added an insurance goal late in the game in a 2-0 win over SVEC here Thursday afternoon in IAC Large School Division crossover boys soccer action.
“We knew coming into this game that both teams had something to play for,” said SVEC coach Jason Banks. “A win would have put us in a lead in our division, and a win would keep T-Burg close to Lansing for the lead in their division.
“T-Burg did a good job of serving the ball into our box and waited for us to make a mistake defensively for them to score."
"As a team, we need to have more grit when things are not going our way,” noted Banks. “There were definitely some unfortunate situations in the game and we need to learn to bounce back from them quickly … we need to learn to control the things we can control.
"We will need to use this as a opportunity to grow and improve as we get ready for the rest of our season,” he added.
Leo Schecter scored with two minute remaining in the first half to give the Blue Raiders a 1-0 lead. They scored again with four minutes left in the contest.
SVEC’s Sirron Irving recorded six saves, including saving a penalty kick in the final minute of the game.
SVEC, now 6-2 on the season, returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Watkins Glen.
