IAC VOLLEYBALL: S-VE RALLIES TO UPEND CANDOR IN FIVE SETS (24 PHOTOS) (2024-09-25)
Tioga County Sports ReportSPENCER — S-VE took the early lead, but needed to rally to win the final two sets in a thrilling five-set win over previously-unbeaten Candor here Wednesday night in IAC South Small School Division volleyball action.
The Panthers won the opening set 25-19, but the Coyotes rallied to win the next two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-21.
S-VE answered with wins of 25-22 and 15-13 to close out the match.
“With both teams being undefeated in league play, I knew it was going to be a good match,” said S-VE coach Charity Meyers.
“I was beyond proud of my team tonight,” she noted. “They left everything on the floor and pushed for every point.
“Candor is always a great team — they played a great game as well,” added Meyers. “Both teams should be proud of the game they played tonight.”
Faith Brenchley led S-VE with six points, 22 setter assists, 24 digs, six kills, and one block, while Andy Wallace had a team-high 18 service points, including two aces, and 16 digs, and Lauren Gillette had 11 points (two aces), seven kills, one block, and three digs.
Kelsea Swayze had 11 points, eight digs, and two kills, while Lilyanah Doolittle registered 17 kills and eight blocks, Mahana Diboun had two points (two aces), two kills, and 14 digs, Amani Diboun added two points and 18 digs, and Hannah Smith chipped in with two digs, and one block.
Phoebe Swartz led Candor with 20 service points (two aces), 28 assists, and three digs, while Emmi Makie had 18 points, including four aces, 14 kills, 2 blocks, two assists, and six digs, and Nicola Soper registered 11 points (two aces(m 18 kills, one block, and 11 digs.
Jill Teribury had 11 points (three aces) and five digs for the Coyotes, while Kate Stouffer had eight points, seven kills, and 13 digs, Malley Heidl had five points, seven assists, two kills, and five digs, Ryleigh Bowman added four points, Hazel Ray chipped in with two points, and Emmi McCracken recorded two kills.
Candor and S-VE will both be in action at the Owego Tournament Saturday.
JV: After dropping the first set, S-VE rallied for a three-set win over Candor.
The junior Coyotes won the first set 25-20, but the Panthers rallied for wins of 25-17 and 25-11 to earn the win.
Maddy Ashby led S-VE with 11 points (two aces), seven assists, six digs, and three kills, while Trinity Dasher had nine points, five kills, one block, 10 digs and two assists, Eliana Middlebrook had seven points (two aces), Jayde Bailey had four points and three digs, Reece Hickey added two points, three kills, and one block, and Molly Rice and Riley Koch chipped in with three and two digs, respectively.
Lizzy Murray had five assists, and three kills for Candor, while Val Polanco-Gil registered four kills, Montana Vortis added three assists, and Nora Young chipped in with two kills.
