SECTION 4 FIELD HOCKEY: SCHMIDT'S WINNER LIFTS OWEGO PAST MARATHON (2024-09-25)
Tioga County Sports ReportOWEGO — Owego’s Aubrey Schmidt scored the game-winning goal as the Owego field hockey team beat Marathon, 3-2 on Wednesday night.
Ashleigh Steele opened the scoring for Owego at 10:57 of the opening quarter off an Eva Crawford assist.
Alina Parker scored for Marathon at 9:39 of the opening quarter and then Marathon scored at 14:31 of the second quarter as Delaney Reilly found the back of the net.
Schmidt had a second quarter goal off an assist from Carsten Crawford.
Schmidt’s winning goal came at 3:49 of the third quarter off an assist from Mikayla Daly.
Owego had six shots in the game and 14 penalty corners. Lillie Kneller had nine saves in goal.
Marathon had 11 shots and 11 penalty corners and Cassie Forrest had four saves in goal.
“Great game between both teams,” Owego caoch Ashlee Marsh said. “Solid team effort all around offensively and defensivey. Our girls came out and played aggressive and with intensity for the full 60 minutes.
“Lillie Kneller made a couple phenomenal saves in goal which helped us.”
