MARATHON — Marathon scored five goals in the second period on its way to a 9-0 win over Newark Valley here Tuesday in Section IV field hockey acton.

The Olympians scored two goals in the first quarter, then stretched its lead to 7-0 at the half.

Delaney Reilly scored three goals and doled out three assists, and Catherine Newkirk added three goals and one assist to lead Marathon.

The Olympians reigned down 30 shots-on-goal to the Cardinals’ four. Marathon also had an 11-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Newark Valley’s Grace Guiles recorded 15 saves in the cage, while Ryan Schweckendieck and Dakota Callahan each had two defensive saves, and Maddie Mele and Ares Wormuth each had one defensive save.

Newark Valley, now 1-4, returns to action Thursday when it hosts Walton.
