STAC GIRLS TENNIS: WESTCOTT EARNS SINGLES WIN IN OWEGO'S 5-1 LOSS TO WINDSOR (2024-09-17)

WINDSOR — Mary Westcott pulled out a win in first singles, but short-handed Owego dropped a 5-1 decision to Windsor Tuesday afternoon in STAC girls tennis action.

Westcott, in the first singles match, topped Windsor’s Makena King 6-4 in the first set, then won a tiebreaker by a score of 7-4 to take the second set, 7-6.

“I’m very proud of Merri Wilcox’s performance tonight,” said Owego coach Erica Haray. “She played smart tennis and made few errors.

“She just kept getting the ball back and stayed patient,” added Haray.

Windsor’s Cassie Groomer battle Owego’s Elaina Anschultz in the second singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-4.

Owego’s first doubles tandem of Jo Jo Schramek and Haike Griep dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision in first doubles.

The River Hawks forfeited the third and fourth singles, and the second doubles. Neither team had a third doubles.

Owego, now 0-4, hosts Seton Catholic Wednesday.
