STAC GIRLS' SOCCER: OWEGO BATTLES, BUT COMES UP SHORT ON THE ROAD (2024-09-17)

Tioga County Sports Report
CHENANGO VALLEY — The Owego girls’ soccer team played a one-goal game at the half, but ended up falling at Chenango Valley 4-1 on Tuesday night.

“We played a really solid first half, we just couldn’t make adjustments needed to continue the momentum,” Owego coach Laurel Evans said. “Again, defense played phenomenal. Cadia Fain especially stepping up to play center and crushing it with her outside backs Kayla Coppege and Taylor Signs. The whole team worked hard, we just still have a little more to figure out as a team going forward, but we’re making steps in the right direction.

“Our offense and miss worked well once they found their groove, but that’s something we’re still working on. It’s coming along, we’re just trying to find that needed connection.”

Liz Reigle had the Owego goal in the first half off an assist from Leah Clark.

It was a 2-1 game at the break. Maddie Hayes had both first half goals for Chenango Valley. They got a goal at 12:44 and another at 1:43 off an assist by Tiffani Schaefer.

Owego scored their goal 12 seconds after the second CV goal to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Braeleigh Durkot scored in the second half at 20:40 off an assist from Schaefer and at 19:36 Hayes completed her hat trick and Schaefer recorded her third assist of the game.

Owego had three shots and four corner kicks. Olivia Dodge finished with nine saves in goal.

Chenango Valley had 12 shots in the game and they had five corner kicks. Hannah Watson had two saves in goal.
