OWEGO — Owego swept Oneonta in an early-season battle of unbeaten STAC volleyball teams here Tuesday night, but it couldn’t have been any closer.

The River Hawks edged the Yellowjackets by scores of 25-23, 26-24, and 26-24.

“It was a tough battle,” said Owego coach Abby Manning. “Oneonta was extremely scrappy and was getting everything up, which made it tough for us.

“We passed extremely well tonight, and it allowed us to continue switching up our hitters,” she added.

Lexi Herceg directed the Owego offense with 22 setter assists, while Maggie Hamed had team-highs with 11 kills, and nine digs, and Logan Georgia registered six kills, and a team-high five blocks.

Shannon Maslin recorded seven digs for the River Hawks, while Alyssa Harrington added five kills, and Kayla Newman added three kills.

Hayden LaFever led Oneonta with 10 kills and six blocks, and Aubry Microni had 21 assists, and two service aces.

Owego, now 4-0, hosts Windsor Thursday night.
