IAC GIRLS SOCCER: 'RELENTLESS' NEWARK VALLEY BLANKS MORAVIA, 7-0 (19 PHOTOS) (2024-09-14)

MORAVIA — Newark Valley had seven different players score in a dominant, 7-0, win over Moravia here Saturday afternoon in IAC girls soccer action.

With a relentless attack, the Cardinals had a 23-3 advantage in shots-on-goal in the contest.

Newark Valley’s first goal came with 26 minutes left in the first half when Emma Smith unleashed a perfectly-placed shot from 22 yards out, finding the back of the net off a well-timed pass from Rebecca Thompson.

The second goal followed 13 minutes later, courtesy of a clever set-piece play. On a corner kick, Ella Klingle delivered a small touch to Livia Short, who buried it into the net to make it 2-0, a lead Newark Valley carried into the halftime intermission.

The Cardinals continued to set the pace in the second half.

With 21 minutes remaining in the contest, Ella Klingle capitalized on a rebound from a long-range effort by Adrianna Finta to score the Cardinals’ third goal.

Less than a minute later, Aubrey Kwiatkowski weaved through several Moravia defenders before depositing a shot into the net to make it 4-0.

After a deflected ball landed at her feet, Adrianna Finta struck a 30-yard shot that sailed past the Moravia keeper to extend the lead to 5-0.

With 12 minutes left, Finta was once again involved, this time setting up Iris McCloskey, who fired a shot from outside the 18-yard box to push the lead to 6-0.

The final goal came when Anika Smith intercepted a pass and finished off a precise shot from just inside the 18 to provide the final margin..

Anika Smith recorded three saves in net for the Cardinals.

Newark Valley, now 2-0, return to action Monday at Groton.
