IAC BOYS SOCCER: HUENECKE, BANKS LEAD SVEC IN 9-1 SEASON-OPENING WIN OVER WHITNEY POINT (11 PHOTOS) (2024-09-03)

WHITNEY POINT — Claas Huenecke and Noah Banks scored four goals apiece to lead SVEC to a season-opening, 9-1, win over Whitney Point here Tuesday night in IAC boys soccer action.

Banks also dished out three assists, and Huenecke had two assists, while Owen Bly scored one goal, and doled out one assist for the Eagles.

“It was a good team effort today,” said SVEC coach Jason Banks. “With only six practices, we did not know what to expect going into the game.  However, the boys gave a great effort today.”

Huenecke, off a feed from Bly, put the Eagles on top 1-0 with a goal with 33:20 remaining in the first half.

Just 20 seconds later, Hueneck, off an assist from Banks, scored again to make it 2-0.

Three minutes later, Banks converted a penalty kick to extend the lead to 3-0.

Huenecke, off a feed from Banks, finished off his hat trick midway through the first half to push the lead to 4-0.

Banks, off an assist from Huenecke, finished off the first-half scoring in the 25th minute to make it 5-0.

Banks, again from Huenecke, and Huenecke (from Banks) scored in the first 10 minutes of the second half to extend the lead to 7-0.

Bly scored an unassisted goal, and Banks, off an assist from Brennan Zimmer, scored a minute apart midway through the second half to give the Eagles a 9-0 lead.

Whitney Point avoided the shutout on a goal by Isaac Jordan with 5 minutes remaining in the game.

SVEC had a 21-11 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 6-1 edge in corner kick.

Siren Irving recorded eight saves in net for the Eagles.

SVEC returns to action Friday at Tioga. Game time is 6 p.m.
