COLLEGE SWIMMING & DIVING: OWEGO GRAD SHOEN RETURNING FOR 5TH SEASON (2024-08-20)

YPSILANTI, Mich. — Owego grad Katie Shoen will return to Eastern Michigan University for a fifth season of women’s swimming.

A graduate student, she has competed for the Eagles for the past four seasons and is ranked fifth all-time at EMU in the 50-yard freestyle (22.98 seconds).

Shoen qualified for the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America National Invitational Championship this past season. She teamed with Marlee Christie, Lucy Noble and Kiersten Russell to place seventh out of 38 teams in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:33.86). Shoen also competed in the 50 free and the 200 medley relay.

Competing in 11 meets during her senior season, she recorded nine top-three finishes and registered two personal-best times. She was also named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team and the program received the Scholar All-America award from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America for the 2024 spring semester.

In 2022-23, she had 11 top-five finishes, including three wins, and was named to the 2023 Academic All-MAC Team.

Shoen swam in seven meets during the 2021-22 season with five top-five showings and had six top-five finishes in 2020-21 in her first season at EMU.

The Eagles open the 2024-25 season Oct. 18 at Cleveland State University.
