COLLEGE BASKETBALL/SOFTBALL: NEWARK VALLEY GRAD WANDELL TO FINISH UP AS TWO-SPORT ATHLETE AT FREDONIA (2024-08-11)

FREDONIA, N.Y. — Newark Valley grad Allie Wandell heads into her senior year at SUNY Fredonia as a two-sport athlete.
She has started in 114 games for the Blue Devils softball team and also started in 36 basketball games during the past two seasons.
The middle infielder will bring a .302 career batting average (105-for-348) to the diamond next spring. Her hitting totals include 58 runs, 42 RBI and 24 extra-base hits (17 of which are doubles). She has recorded 194 putouts and 185 assists with 35 errors for a .915 fielding percentage, and has been involved in 17 double plays.
She recorded career highs in runs (21), RBI (18) and stolen bases (11) this past spring and posted personal bests in average (.351), hits (40) and extra-base hits (12) as a sophomore. She also had highs in putouts (72) and assists (64) in her second season.
Wandell hit .429 (24-for-56) in State University of New York Athletic Conference games this season and was named to the 2024 SUNYAC Softball All-Conference first team at shortstop.
The Devils placed fifth in the conference to qualify for the playoffs.
On the basketball court, Wandell led Fredonia to a 12-13 overall record (7-11 SUNYAC) and was the team leader in rebounding (6.0, 151), was second in scoring (10.0, 249) and steals (1.3, 33), and was third in blocks (0.3, 8).
Wandell was also chosen as a finalist for the 2024 Fredonia State Female Athlete of the Year award.
