HS BASKETBALL: SOUTHERN TIER GIRLS DROP TWO, BOYS WIN IN OT AT BCANY HOOPS FESTIVAL (2024-07-27)

JOHNSON CITY — The Southern Tier girls scored the first five points against Central and led by four at halftime, but couldn’t shake the Section III representatives, who came back to, 67-64, at the 12th Annual BCANY Summer Hoops Festival Friday at Johnson City High School.

The Southern Tier (Section IV) would face Hudson Valley (Section 2) in the nightcap and drop a 79-63 decision.

Owego guard Madison McEvoy and River Hawks head coach Luke McEvoy are participating for the Southern Tier.

In boys action, Johnson City’s Zubayr Griffin scored six points in overtime to lift the Southern Tier past Buffalo (Section VI), 86-81.

The girls play three games today, at 8 a.m. (JC Middle School), 11 a.m. (JC HS) and at 5 p.m. (JCMS).

The boys play three games also, at 8 a.m. (JC Elementary School), 11 a.m. (JCMS) and 3:30 p.m. (JCES).
