HS GIRLS BASKETBALL: OWEGO’S McEVOYS TO PARTICIPATE IN BCANY FESTIVAL (2024-07-25)

JOHNSON CITY — Owego guard Madison McEvoy and River Hawks head coach Luke McEvoy will be competing in the 12th Annual BCANY Summer Hoops Festival Friday through Sunday at the Johnson City schools.

The duo returns to the Southern Tier team which they were a part of in 2023. That team finished as the runner-up.

Madison McEvoy, a rising senior, was named a 2024 Basketball Coaches of New York Section IV first-team all-star following the recent high school hoop season.

She averaged 16.3 points (54 3-pointers), 3.5 assists, 3.5 steals (3.1 deflections PG), 2.5 rebounds and 0.5 blocks per game this past season.

Her father, Luke, guided Owego to a 12-10 record and a second-place finish in the Section IV Class A playoffs.

Madison McEvoy earned several honors during the 2023-24 season. She was named to The Sports Reports All-Region second team and the All-Tioga County first team, and was also a STAC Central/East All-Conference all-star pick and was selected to the Binghamton Press & Sun Bulletin Elite 15.

She was chosen the More Than A Game Tournament MVP and voted to the Charlie Sibley Memorial all-tournament team. Section IV officials also picked her to compete in the Stars and Stripes Classic.

Southern Tier opens play Friday at 5:30 p.m. against Central, then plays a second game vs. Hudson Valley at 8:30 p.m. Both games will be played at the high school.

On Saturday, the ladies start early, taking on Capital at 8 a.m. at the middle school. They play again at 11 a.m. against Buffalo at the high school, then at 5 p.m. vs. Mid Hudson at the middle school.

The Southern Tier boys open play Friday at 7 p.m. against Buffalo at the elementary school. On Saturday, the boys return to the elementary school to face Central at 8 a.m. They also take on Suffolk at 11 a.m. at the middle school and Mid Hudson at 3:30 p.m. at the Elementary School.

The semifinals, and championship and consolation games will be held Sunday.
