YOUTH BASEBALL: OWEGO DROPS 2-0 BATTLE IN TEENER 14U SEMIS (2024-07-24)
Tioga County Sports Report
WINDSOR — Hits were rare for the Owego 14A team as it fell to the BC Ballers, 2-0, in the Tri County Teener League 14U winner’s bracket semifinals Tuesday evening.
Owego collected three hits, including two from Nolan Card. Eric Schrader had the other.
The Ballers scored in the bottom of the first inning after receiving three singles from their first four batters.
They added a second run in the third. A walk and a single put runners on with one away, but the lead runner was erased at third on a Camden Thole-to-Ryan Diedrich 2-to-5 pickoff. Unfortunately for Owego, the next batter delivered an RBI double to center field.
Owego put a runner on in the first and second, then loaded the bases with two down in the third, but was unable to score. The team put single runners on in the fifth and sixth as well, and two on in the seventh, but came away empty.
Dylan Gregory, Brenden Whigham, Diedrich and Lincoln Miller drew walks, and Evan Canfield was hit twice by pitches to account for Owego’s other base runners.
Schrader suffered the loss, scattering seven hits and a walk over five innings while striking out five. Diedrich fanned two in one inning of hutless relief.
NOTE: Owego was eliminated with the loss.
