YOUTH SOFTBALL: EYOTA NATION - QUINN WINS 12U CHAMPIONSHIP (2024-07-22)

APALACHIN — Eyota Nation - Quinn avenged its only loss of the weekend, defeating Southern Tier Thunder, 7-2, to win the Eyota Nation 12U Softball Tournament Sunday.

With a 4-2 lead in hand, Eyota pushed a trio of runs across in the bottom of the sixth to solidify its advantage. A single, double and triple by Carley Mistler, Kinsley Williams and Reilly Hoyt, respectively, made it 6-2. Following a walk to Mya Dyman, Kylee Young laid down a sacrifice bunt to score the final run.

Leah Wolcott belted a one-out triple in the bottom half of the inning to try to keep the Thunder alive, but Carley Mistler struck out the next two batters to secure the title.

Eyota scored twice in the first and third innings to build a 4-1 advantage.

In the first, a walk to Natalie Schofield and three one-out singles by Michalene Musock, Mistler and Williams paved the way for a 2-0 lead. Natalie scored on a passed ball and Williams drove in Musock.

The third inning saw Payton Paludi walk and Musock single then, with one away, Williams singled before Payton Paludi and Musock scored on wild pitches to make it a 4-1 contest.

The Thunder, whose initial run came after a base hit and an error, added their second run following a walk and an error.

Both runs were unearned against Mistler, who struck out nine, walked two and scattered four hits in the circle.

Williams paced an 11-hit performance by Eyota, going 3-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Musock was 2-for-3 with two runs, Mistler went 2-for-3 with a run and Adriana Paludi was 2-for-3.

Hoyt chipped in with a hit, run and RBI; Lilly Virgil had a hit, Schofield and Payton Paludi contributed one run apiece, and Young scored a run.

Eyota’s lone setback of the tournament came against the Thunder, 4-3, in the first round of pool play.

Earlier in the day, Quinn scored four runs in the bottom of the third, then tacked on five more in the fourth to defeat the Eyota - Hall team in the semifinals.

Quinn started off the third with an error off the bat of Virgil and a walk to Schofield. Then, with a pair of outs in the book, Mistler drove in Virgil on a fielder's choice, Schofield and Mistler scored on passed balls and KInsley, who drew a base on balls, scored on a Dyman hit.

Adriana Paludi, Schofield, Musock, Mistler and Williams delivered RBI singles to close out the Quinn scoring.

Terrianna Orshal broke up Merilee Quinn’s no-hit bid with a one-out single in the fourth. Quinn finished with a one-hitter, striking out four without issuing a walk.

Mistler had a hit, two runs and two RBI to lead Quinn at the plate. Schofield had a hit, two runs and an RBI; Musock, Williams and Adrian Paludi registered one hit, one run and one RBI apiece; Dyman added a hit and RBI; and Quinn and Virgil scored one run each.

NOTE: Both Quinn and Hall keep score with GameChanger, however, the books did not match, so TCSR went with the home book (Quinn) for information about the game.
