YOUTH BASEBALL: OWEGO ROBINSON STUMBLES EARLY IN 12C SEMIS LOSS (2024-07-21)

OWEGO — Owego Robinson stumbled early in the 12C semifinals of the Owego Little League 12U Tournament Saturday, surrendering a half-dozen runs in the top of the first innings in a 9-5 loss to SV Bailey.

SV parlayed three doubles, a single and three free passes into a 6-0 advantage, then tacked on two more runs in the second on two walks and another double to build an 8-0 cushion.

Owego battled back with a trio of runs in the home half of the third. Slade Kiczek started the comeback bid with a walk, Jaxson Weaver delivered a one-out RBI single, Chandler Serfass walked, Ethan Nikulich added an RBI single and Owego added another run to make it 8-3.

A triple and an error led to another SV run in the fifth, but Dalton Marsh and Kiczek wrapped doubles around an out to pick up a run, then Kaden Kacmar added a single to close the gap to 9-5 after five.

Gavin Harrington and Theo Robinson singled in Owego’s final at-bats, but neither could score.

Owego outhit SV, 10-8, with 10 different players collecting a hit. Marsh, Kiczek and Vinnie Yaichuk recorded doubles while Serfass, Nikulich, Harrington, Robinson, Peyton Avery, Kacmar and Weaver had singles.

Kiczek scored twice and drove in a run and Weaver contributed a run and an RBI. Serfass and Marsh scored one run each; and Nikulich and Kacmar added one RBI apiece.

Seven players registered stolen bases with Serfass, Weaver and Kacmar swiping two apiece.

SV went on to win the championship and finish at 5-0-1 while Owego was 3-1.
