YOUTH BASEBALL: CANDOR TOTH DROPS HEARTBREAKER IN 10C SEMIS (2024-07-21)

OWEGO — Candor Toth was primed to pull off an upset in the 10C semifinals of the Owego Little League 10U Tournament Saturday, but Greene Anastos was able to rally for a 7-6 win in seven innings.

A double and a one-out single created the winning run for Greene, which started off the bottom of the sixth with three singles and a hit batter, pushing a pair of runs across.

Following a pair of outs, Greene knotted the score with a two-run double.

Gunner Toth singled with two away in the seventh, but was unable to score.

Greene scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first, but Candor took a 2-1 edge with two down in the third. Toth belted a triple to plate Ryan Wakeman and Easton Ahart, both of whom had walked.

A walk and ground out allowed Greene to tie the score in the bottom of the third, but Candor responded with a trio of runs in the fourth. Keegen Gregrow was hit by a pitch and Ayden Presher singled, then both moved up on a Gavin Benjamin ground out. Colton French followed with an RBI single, then Remington Winchester and Justin Milks added back-to-back RBI doubles for a 5-2 advantage.

Candor pushed its lead to 6-2 in the sixth after Milks walked, Tate Wakeman took one for the team and Chase French singled.

Toth went 3-for-3 with two RBI and Winchester was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Colton French and Milks recorded one hit, one run and one RBI apiece; Presher had a hit and a run; Chase French added a hit and an RBI; Ryan Wakeman, Ahart and Gregrow scored one run each; and Benjamin tacked on a hit.

Greene (5-1) went on to place second behind top-seeded Lansing Davenport while Candor finished at 3-2.
