YOUTH SOFTBALL: QUINN DOWNS HALL IN EYOTA NATION CLASH (2024-07-21)

APALACHIN — Eyota Nation - Quinn 12U flexed its muscles early to defeat Eyota Nation - Hall 10U, 15-0, at the Eyota Nation 12U Softball Tournament at Muth Park Saturday.

Hall, moving up from its normal 10U schedule, was coming off a win over Southern Tier Thunder on a hot and humid afternoon just before facing Quinn.

A three-run double by Reilly Hoyt and an RBI double from Michalene Musok, complimented by four walks and three singles, sparked a seven-run start for Quinn.

Quinn took advantage of three singles and three errors to extend its lead to 13-0 in the second inning.

Carley Mistler delivered a two-run single in the third to close out the scoring.

Harper Liechty singled in the first and Maela Thorpe added a single in the second to account for Hall’s hits.

Quinn allowed just three base runners, walking one, and had one strikeout.

Layla Robinson struck out six, and surrendered seven hits and six walks while giving up nine earned runs.

Mistler led Quinn at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two runs, three RBI and two stolen bases, and Musok went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Hoyt had a hit, two runs and three RBI; and Kinsley Williams added a hit, two runs and two RBI. Natalie Schofield and Payton Paludi scored two runs apiece; Adriana Paludi recorded one run and one RBI; Kylee Young and Lilly Virgil added one run apiece; and Mya Dyman tacked on an RBI.

Quinn went 2-1 on the day and Hall was 1-2.

ST Thunder 4, Quinn 3
The Eyota squad scored a trio of runs in the top of the first, but the Thunder scored one run in four different innings.

Musok and Mistler delivered RBI singles, and Musok scored on a passed ball for the 3-0 advantage.

Mistler went 2-for-3 at the dish with a triple and an RBI; Musok contributed a hit, run and RBI; Payton Paludi added a hit and a run; and Schofield scored a run.

In the circle, Mistler gave up three earned runs on three hits and five walks while fanning seven batters.

Quinn 13, NEPA Adrenaline 7
Quinn rallied from a 7-6 deficit behind a seven-run assault in the sixth.

An error following a ground ball from Andrea Paludi tied the contest and Lilly Virgil’s fielder’s choice bunt plated the game-winning run. Quinn batters tacked on five more runs behind four singles and a ground out.

Quinn led 4-0 after 1 1/2 innings thanks to a half-dozen walks and a base hit. They were also ahead, 6-1, heading into the bottom of the third after two walks and two base hits.

NEPA scored three in the third and three more in the fourth to take the lead.

Young had a hit, two runs and two RBI; Williams and Dyman recorded a hit, two runs and an RBI each; Hoyt had a hit and two runs; Musok and Mistler chipped in with a hit, run and RBI apiece; Schofield had a hit, run and RBI; Virgil registered a run and two RBI; Adriana Paludi added a run and RBI; Payton Paludi had a hit and RBI; and Merilee Quinn tacked on an RBI.

Mistler earned the win, striking out four in two innings of no-hit relief.

NEPA Adrenaline 18, Hall 2
The Eyota group took a 2-1 edge into the bottom of the second, but NEPA cranked out 17 runs.

Lexi Mott doubled to lead off the top of the second and scored on a passed ball. Lydia Chase singled and scored on an error to put Hall in front.

Liechty accounted for Hall’s other hit.

Hall 9, ST Thunder 5
Trailing, 5-1, Eyota rang up eight runs in the top of the fourth to get the win.

Liechty’s two-run double plated what would prove to be the game-winning run. The Hall team recorded three singles and four walks during the comeback.

Leading the way at the dish was Liechty, going 2-for-2 with a run and two RBI. Lindsey Farry, who scored the game’s initial run, Terrianna Orshal and Alannah Hall each recorded a hit, run and RBI; Mott had a hit and two runs; Ali Denman added a hit and a run; and Thorpe and Chase tacked on one run apiece.

Robinson picked up the win with one inning of scoreless relief.

NOTES: Both Quinn and Hall keep score with GameChanger, however, the books did not match, so TCSR went with the home book (Hall) for information about that game. Quinn and Hall met in the semifinals Sunday morning with Quinn winning. That story will run later.
