YOUTH BASEBALL: CANDOR LYON DROPS 5-3 HEARTBREAKER TO TOP-SEEDED CV (2024-07-19)

OWEGO — Candor Lyon fell into a 5-0 hole and was unable to climb out in a 5-3 loss to top-seeded Chenango Valley McMahon in the semifinals of the 12B Gold bracket in the Owego Little League 12U Tournament Friday evening.

CV scored a trio of runs in the bottom of the third inning and pushed its cushion to 5-0 in the fourth.

A pair of walks and a singled loaded the bases for a bases-clearing triple to right field to give CV a 3-0 advantage. A single and a base on balls led to the team’s final pair of runs.

Candor staged a comeback attempt in its final at-bats.

Cameron Labarre started things off with a double to right, then Jackson Watson hit a one-out single and Brock Rose followed with an RBI double. Xander Reger plated Watson with a single and Rose scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Colin Strong.

Candor outhit CV, 6-4, with Rose going 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run and an RBI; and Watson going 2-for-3 with a run. Reger contributed a hit and an RBI; Labarre had a double and a run; and Strong chipped in with an RBI.

Rose struck out six, gave up four hits and walked three over three innings while Watson hurled two innings of hitless relief, fanning five batters.

Candor went 3-2 in the tournament, its other loss a 9-8 setback against CV in their pool play opener.
