YOUTH BASEBALL: OWEGO MOSES WINS 3 GAMES IN 3 DAYS (2024-07-16)

OWEGO — Owego Moses won three games in three days in 10B pool play in the Owego Little League 10U Tournament. The team defeated a trio of Triple Cities-area teams Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Leading, 4-3, Owego created a little space behind a four-run fourth inning.

Maddox Hall belted a two-run home run after Xavier Moses led off with a base on balls. Mike Schmidt followed with a single and Dom Russell-Wilkins delivered an RBI double to make it 7-3. Following a pair of outs, Russell-Wilkins scored on a passed ball.

Nat Robinson singled and stole home in the fifth. In the sixth, Schmidt and Robinson connected for back-to-back singles Schmidt scored on a ground out.

Owego picked up its first two runs in its first at-bats on a double, triple and single by Austin Gregory, Robinson and Mays Miller, respectively.

The next two runs for the team came in the third on a Hank Talbot walk, Moose Monell double and Gregory single.

Gregory finished the game 2-for-2 with a run while Robinson was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI; Schmidt went 2-for-3 with two runs; and Russell-Wilkins went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Monell chipped in with a hit, run, RBI and three stolen bases; Hall recorded a hit, run and two RBI; Mays and Maxx Thole added one hit apiece; Moses and Hank Talbot scored one run each; and Zachariah Wheeler tacked on an RBI.

Robinson, Lewis, Gregory and Moses combined to strike out 11 batters with Robinson getting the win and Moses taking the save.

Owego rallied from 4-0 and 8-7 deficits to pull out the victory.

A seven-run second inning gave them the first of two leads. Two-run singles by Moses and Monell, highlighted the burst. Thole, Talbot and Gregory brought home one run apiece to take a 7-4 advantage.

Trailing by a run, Owego grabbed the lead for good in the third on an RBI walk from Wheeler and a three-run double by Russell-Wilkins.

Moses led the team at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Isaiah Lewis contributed two hits and two runs; Monell added two hits, a run and two RBI; and Gregory had two hits and an RBI.

Hall had a hit and a run; Schmidt registered a hit and two runs; Wheeler added two runs and an RBI; Thole chipped in with a hit, run and RBI; Robinson tacked on a hit and drove in a trio of runs; and Talbot had an RBI.

Thole got the win in relief striking out four while scattering four hits and a walk over four innings. Moses earned the save.

Owego 11, M-E Davis 3
Owego scored four runs in each of the first two innings to cruise to victory.

A Moses double, singles by Miller and Russell-Wilkins, and Schmidt’s steal of home made it 4-0 in the first.

In the second, Monell singled home a run and scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Lewis. An error and a ground out plated the other two runs.

Gregory would score on an error and Moses reached home on a Schmidt triple in the fourth, and Thole would score following a Wheeler base hit in the fifth.

Moses was 2-for-2 at the dish with two runs and an RBI; Monell had two hits, a run and an RBI; and Robinson had two hits and an RBI.

Lewis recorded a run and an RBI; Gregory had a hit and two runs; Schmidt contributed a hit, run and RBI; Miller had a hit, a run and two RBI; Thole and Talbot chipped in with one hit and one run apiece; Wheeler added a hit and an RBI; and Hall tacked on a run.

Talbot picked up the win scattering five hits over three innings while striking out three. Russell-Wilkins fanned four in two innings of relief, giving up one hit and two walks.

Owego (3-0) finished pool play in second place and faces M-E Davis again Wednesday in bracket play on Hyde Park Field 3 at 5:45 p.m.
