YOUTH BASEBALL: OWEGO PICKS UP ANOTHER BIG WIN IN 12U POOL PLAY (2024-07-13)

OWEGO — Peyton Avery fashioned a one-hit shutout and Owego Robinson cranked out a dozen hits to pick up another big win in “C” division pool play in the Owego Little League 12U Tournament, rolling to an 18-0 victory over the Whitney Point Blowers Friday.

Owego, a 10-0 winner in its tourney opener, erupted for 13 runs in the top of the third and final inning.

The Blowers held Owego in check in the first inning, but the hometown team scored five in the second. Gavin Harrington belted a triple to highlight the effort while Sawyer Calice, Avery and Gavin Sipe added singles.

The third inning brought a triple from Nolan Whigham and a double by Ethan Nikulich. Theo Robinson smacked two singles while Avery, Harrington, Sipe and Chandler Serfass added one apiece. Owego also took advantage of a half-dozen walks and three hit batters.

Avery threw just 38 pitches, striking out five and walking one

First baseman Robinson supported Avery’s pitching with an unassisted double play on a line drive in the second.

Harrington went 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI; Sipe was 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI; and Avery and Nikulich were 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

Chandler had a hit, a run and two RBI; Calice contributed a hit and two runs; Vinnie Yaichuk and Kaden Kacmar chipped in with a run and an RBI apiece; Slade Kiczek recorded two runs and one RBI; Whigham had a hit, run and RBI; and Dalton Marsh tacked on a run.

Owego (2-0) closes out pool play today against M-E Summerfeld (1-0) at 4:30 p.m. on Hyde Park Field 3.
