YOUTH WRESTLING: OWEGO’S CRAFT, SVEC’S BEACH TO COMPETE AT FARGO (2024-07-12)

FARGO, N.D. — Section IV girls wrestling champions RaeAnn Craft from Owego and Tayah Beach of Spencer-Van Etten/Candor will be competing in the 2024 U.S. Marine Corps 16U Nationals at the Fargodome this weekend.

Craft, a rising junior at Owego Free Academy and the first three-time girls wrestling champion in Section IV history, compiled a 21-5 record with 15 pins and four technical falls. The All-Tioga County girls Wrestler of the Year also won her second consecutive STAC championship and made her second trip to the podium at the NYSPHSAA Girls Wrestling Invitational. She placed fifth at 120 pounds, a weight class which boasted three returning champions (114, 120 126).

Beach, who will be entering her junior year at S-VE, won her first sectional title this past season. She was a runner-up in 2023 and placed third in 2022. Beach was arguably the most improved wrestler in Section IV during the 2023-24 campaign. She recorded a 22-5 record with 20 pins, winning more matches than her previous two seasons combined. She also won five tournaments, to include an IAC title, and went 2-2 at the state invitational.

Both wrestlers are competing in Freestyle, Craft at 118 pounds and Beach at 124.

Also competing in Fargo will be Tioga boys standout Jayden Duncanson, who will compete in the 16U Greco-Roman championships at 132 pounds. Also a rising junior, he is a three-time state place-winner, garnering runner-up honors this past season. He went 31-2, winning IAC and Section IV Division II titles, and has 121 career victories.

Girls 16U Freestyle begins Saturday at 9 a.m. and Boys 16U Greco-Roman starts July 19.
