YOUTH BASEBALL: SEVEN IS BINGHAMTON’S LUCKY NUMBER IN 12U TOURNEY WIN OVER OWEGO (2024-07-08)

Tioga County Sports Report
OWEGO — Binghamton White used a seven-run uprising to break a 4-4 deadlock and defeat Owego Schrader, 11-8, in a pool play opener in the Owego Little League 12U Tournament Monday.

With two down in the bottom of the third and runner’s at first and second, Binghamton rode a double, three singles and two walks to an 11-4 cushion.

Owego attempted to come back with a run in the fourth and three more in the sixth.

Harrison Miller walked and scored on a wild pitch to make it 11-5, but Max Schrader was thrown out at the plate and Remmy Morgan was left on base.

Owego started to rally in the sixth, closing the gap to 11-8, but the Binghamton pitcher wrapped a pair of strikeouts around a fly out to retire the side and seal the victory.

Adam Harvey started things off with a double, Max Buchsbaum walked and Miller drove in both with a ground ball single to center field. Miller would steal third and score on a passed ball to make it 11-8. Morgan added a single before the Owego bats got shut down.

Binghamton scored a trio of runs in the first, but Owego got two back in the second. Harvey was hit by a pitch, advanced to third, then scored on passed balls. Schrader added a base hit and ended up at third following an error. He scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-2.

Another Binghamton run in the bottom of the second made it 4-2, but Owego knotted the score in its half of the third. Jagger Chrysler took one for the team, went to second on a passed ball, stole third and scored on an error. Devon Brace reached second on an error, then made it a four-all contest on a Rocco Canfield base hit.

Schrader was the lone Owego player with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with a run. Miller had a hit, two runs and two RBI; Harvey added a hit and two runs; Canfield contributed a hit and an RBI; Brace, Buchsbaum and Chrysler chipped with one run apiece; and Morgan tackled on a hit.

Owego takes on Vestal Bertoni Thursday at 5:45 on Hyde Park Field 2.
