YOUTH SOFTBALL: SOUTHERN TIER SMOKE GOES 0-4 AT EYOTA TOURNAMENT (2024-07-07)

APALACHIN — Southern Tier Smoke 18U went 0-4 at the Eyota Nation 18U Softball Tournament at Muth Park Saturday and Sunday. The Smoke was 0-3 in pool play Saturday, then fell in their bracket opener Sunday.

The Dawgs 5, ST Smoke 2
The Smoke held The Dawgs in check until a five-run uprising in the fifth.

Sarah Terry put the Smoke on the board first, leading off the bottom of the second with a double, moving to third on a passed ball and scoring on an error following a sacrifice by McKenzie Scott.

Bella Spangenberg singled and scored on an Abby Cron base hit in the sixth for the Smoke’s other run.

Terry went 2-for-2 at the plate to account for half of her team’s hits.

NY Titans Gold 12, ST Smoke 0
Leading, 3-0, the Titans put the game away with a six-run fourth.

The Titans held the Smoke to two hits and took advantage of four Southern Tier errors.

Terry went 1-for-2 at the dish.

Lady Lightning Blue 6, ST Smoke 5
Lady Lightning rallied from a 4-2 deficit behind a three-run third, aided by a trio of walks to start the effort.

Madison Evans belted a grand slam to get the Smoke off to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. With one down, Kaylee Watson walked and Terry singled, then Meghan Apgar singled with two away to load the bags.

Southern Tier’s other run came in the fifth, tying the game at five. Rhea Malmquist led off with a walk and scored on an error off the bat of Jazmyn Pratt.

Terry was 2-for-2.

NY Titans Gold 13, ST Smoke 2
The second-seeded Titans rode a nine-run uprising in the bottom of the second to the victory.

The Smoke picked up both its runs in the top of the first inning as Aubrey Rogers was hit by a pitch, Watson reached on an error, Sophia Colgan came through with a one-out RBI single and Watson scored on an error.

Colgan and Scott had the only hits for Southern Tier.
