YOUTH SOFTBALL: EYOTA NATION GOES 3-0 TO OPEN TOURNEY (2024-07-07)

APALACHIN — Eyota Nation 18U enjoyed a 3-0 start on opening day of the Eyota Nation 18U Softball Tournament at Muth Park Saturday.

Eyota 3, Lady Lightning Blue 16U 1
Eyota broke a 1-1 deadlock with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, then tacked on one more for insurance in the sixth.

Kailey Ripley scored the winning run on an error by the center fielder after drawing a two-out walk. The error followed Abby Foley’s single to center.

LLB switched pitchers in the sixth and Raegan Sudnikovich greeted the new hurler with a double to center. Following an out and a walk to Gabby Milazzo, Saylor Ayers laid down a sacrifice bunt to third to score Foley.

Eyota’s initial run came in the first when Cassidy Will singled and scored on a Gabby Foley double to left.

The Towanda-based Lightning tied the score with an unearned run in the third.

Will went 2-for-2 and Abby Foley was 2-for-3 to pace Eyota at the plate. Gabby Foley contributed a hit, run and RBI; Ayers added a hit and an RBI; and Sudnikovich recorded a hit.

Milazzo scattered five hits to earn the win, striking out one and walking one.

Eyota 12, Southern Tier Thunder 18U 4
Austyn Vance opened the scoring with a two-out, two-run double in the top of the first, then highlighted a seven-run uprising in the second with a two-out, two-run home run in the second.

Abby Foley led off the game with a walk and Gabby Foley added a single to set up the first inning scoring while Vance launched her dinger after a Sudnikovich double.

Eyota led 7-0 at the time. MJ Thetga walked, Ripley followed with an RBI double, Abby Foley walked, Ripley scored on an error following a fielder’s choice off the bat of Will, Abby Foley scored on a passed ball and Gabby Foley scored on the Sudnikovich hit.

The Thunder came back with a trio of runs in the bottom of the third behind a pair of doubles, but Eyota countered the comeback attempt with three runs in the fourth.

Abby Foley, Gabby Foley and Sudnikovich singled with Gabby Foley plating the team’s 10th run of the contest. With two outs in the book, Milazzo closed out the scoring with a two-run single to left.

Eyota cranked out 10 hits with Vance going 2-for-3 with a run and four RBI; Gabby Foley going 2-for-3 with three ryan and one RBI; and Sudnikovich going 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Abby Foley had a hit and three runs; Ripley added a hit, run and RBI; Milazzo posted a hit and two RBI; Will scored a pair of runs; Theta scored a run and Erin Wales had a hit.

Eyota 11, Impact Panthers White 18U
Eyota erupted for seven runs in the top of the second, then put the game away with a four-run fourth.

Vance singled and scored on a Rupley base hit, Milazzo walked, Sayers reached on an error on her sacrifice attempt, Gabby Foley and Milazzo scored, and Sayers made it 4-0 on an error following Thetga’s ground ball.

Following an out, Paige and Cassidy Will wrapped singles around an Abby Foley base hit; and Thetga scored on Cassidy Will’s hit. Gabby Foley made it 7-0 with a two-run double to left.

Following an unearned run by Impact, Eyota extended its lead to 9-0 on a Cassidy Will homer which also scored Paige Will. Gabby Foley singled, Vance drew a base on balls, Milazzo added a two-out RBI single, and Vance scored on an error to make it 11-1.

Paige Will went 2-for-2 with two runs; Cassidy Will was 2-for-3 with a run and three RBI; and Gabby Foley was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Milazzo had a hit, run and RBI; Vance had a hit and two runs; Abby Foley and Ayers added a hit and a run each; Ripley had a hit and an RBI; and Thetga added a run.

Ripley spun a three-hitter, striking out two and walking one.

Eyota takes the No. 1 seed into today’s bracket play and receives a first-round bye. They will play at 11 a.m. With a win they advance to the championship game at 1 p.m.
