YOUTH BASEBALL: OWEGO 12A SPLITS FOUR GAMES (2024-07-05)

OWEGO — The Owego 12A All Stars split four games over the past week in District 7 playoff action.

Owego 14, Binghamton 3
Owego took a 3-2 edge into the top of the fourth inning, then exploded for 11 runs. The big inning included a home run by Truett Hall, a triple from Adam Harvey and back-to-back doubles from Colby Cordero and Rocco Canfield. Cordero also had a two-run homer in his first at-bat.

Cordero and Devon Brace paced Owego’s 16-hit performance with Cordero going 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI, and Brace going 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Harvey went 2-for-2 with a run and RBI, and Canfield was 2-for-3 with a run and RBI. Harrison Miller scored twice and drove in two runs; Hall had a hit, run and two RBI; Max Buchsbaum and Max Schrader added a hit, run and RBI each; Nick Thole chipped in with a hit and an RBI; Jagger Chrysler had a hit and a run; Remmy Morgan scored once and Cameron Farrell tacked on a hit.

Canfield picked up the win, allowing just one earned run on three hits and a walk. He struck out two.

Owego 9, Vestal ALL-STARS 2
Owego broke a 1-1 deadlock with five runs in the top of the third, then sealed the victory with three more in the fifth.

The team took advantage of three errors in the third and a Canfield two-run dinger in the fifth.

Canfield was 2-for-3 with a run and four RBI; Brace went 2-fo-r 3 with two runs and an RBI; and Chrysler was also 2-for-3.

Cordero posted a hit, two runs and two RBI; Farrell registered a hit and a run; Hall had a run and an RBI; Harvey added a hit and an RBI; and Morgan and Miller scored one run apiece.

Harvey and Schrader combined to scatter eight hits and three walks while stringing out eight batters.

Vestal ALL-STARS 2, Owego 1
Owego outhit Vestal, 4-2, in the rematch, but came up short on runs.

Vestal broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the sixth.

Owego’s run came in the third when Buchsbaum doubled and took third on the throw, then scored on Miller’s bunt single.

Cordero, Canfield, Buchsbaum and Miller had Owego’s hits.

Brace and Canfield handled the pitching duties, teaming for 10 strikeouts while giving up two hits and five walks.

12A Spartans 16, Owego 3
The Spartans scored five runs in the top of the fifth and put the game away with a 10-run sixth.

Cordero had a double, run and RBI; Canfield went 2-for-2 with two RBI; Brace and Harvey added one hit and one run apiece; and Buchsbaum tacked on a hit.
