YOUTH WRESTLING: OWEGO DUO COMPETES IN DUALS ON DESMOND (2024-06-09)

SAYRE — A pair of Owego youth wrestlers competed in the Duals on Desmond All-Star Wrestling Showcase Saturday.
Gavin Lovell would split a pair of bouts while Joseph Monell dropped a decision in his only match.
He dropped a 1-0 heartbreaker to Towanda’s Jason Isbell, who was a seventh-place finisher at the Middle Atlantic Wrestling Association Eastern National Championships (Junior 98 pounds). Lovell also placed seventh at MAWA Eastern Nationals (Intermediate 85 pounds). Boh wrestlers qualified for All-American status.
Lovell won his other match, pinning Athens’ Kruze Payne in 1:14.
Monell came out on the short side of a 4-0 decision with Athens’ Liam Warner, a Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling State Championships qualifier.
Lovell and Monell both placed second at the NYWAY Southern Tier state qualifier this season.
