OWEGO — Ben Rollison is a three-sport standout at Owego and is known for his defensive abilities on the soccer pitch, basketball court and baseball diamond.

On Wednesday, at a signing ceremony held at OFA, he put pen to paper to play baseball at Oswego State, which was ranked 43rd by D3baseball.com this season.

Rollison will major in Biology when not on the baseball diamond.

“I chose Oswego because it's a great education there,” he said. “Obviously, I get to play ball, so it's a good mix of both being able to get the degree I'm looking for and later move on and be able to continue what I love.

“Baseball was my main sport always. I think that was the only one I could have played in college and I love the game more than anything.”

This season, Rollison led or was No. 2 on the team in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, hits, extra-base hits, runs, stolen bases, putouts and fielding percentage.

Statistics are not the only reason he can be a benefit to the Lakers.

“I'm very knowledgeable about the game,” he said. “Being a great teammate is also something I can do and being able to help them on the field any way that I possibly can.”

Rollison also knows he can continue to improve at the game.

“With baseball you fail more than you're going to succeed, so the mental aspect of the game is always something you can always improve on and better yourself at every day,” he said. “Even the professionals aren't perfect at it, so that's always something you can work on.

Rollison played key roles in the River Hawks winning STAC Central titles in 2022, 2023 and 2024 and the STAC championship this season. Owego also finished as the Section IV runner-up the past two seasons (Class B in 2023, Class A in 2024).

His diamond honors read like a laundry list: The Sports Reports All-Region Breakout Player of the Year, second team, and defensive team; All-Tioga County Player of the Year and STAC Central/East All-Conference, all coming in 2023 (2024 all-star teams have not been announced yet).

Rollison was also a member of two Section IV championship teams in soccer (2022, 2023) and another in basketball (2024). His accolades on the pitch and the court include 2023-24 STAC Central All-Division, 2023-24 All-Tioga County second team, and 2022-23 All-Tioga County honorable mention in basketball; and 2023 second team All-Region, 2023 All-Tioga County first team, 2022 All-Tioga County second team, and 2022 STAC Central All-Division in soccer.
