COLLEGE SOCCER: OWEGO’S DOANE TO ‘KICK IT’ AT TC3 (2024-06-06)

OWEGO — Cassie Doane enjoyed a solid career in both basketball and soccer during her three years at Owego, earning several all-star honors and playing on a pair of Section IV championship teams.

The River Hawk senior would finalize her commitment to play for Tompkins Cortland Community College at the next level at a signing ceremony Wednesday (she actually signed her NJCAA Letter of Intent with TC3 last November).

“I like the location and the environment of the college,” she said of her choice to further her education less than an hour from home.

She has decided to major in Hospitality/Business at TC3 “because of the opportunities that come with it like going to the Dominican Republic and taking an internship with Disney.”

While at Owego, Doane was a member of the 2021 Section IV Class B soccer co-champions and the 2023 Class A champions. She was a JV call-up in 2021 when she scored her first varsity goal in a 3-2 semifinal win.

Doane believes she has more than footwork to offer to the Panthers.

“I have lots of energy to offer and a good attitude,” she said. “I will bring my ability and skills to work well with my teammates.

She sees a couple of areas where she can improve to help the team.

“I would say probably that I want to build upon the foundation of soccer that I have worked on through the years,” she said. “There is always room to grow and develop as a player.

“I look forward to the new challenge of playing at the collegiate level,” she added.

Her accolades on the pitch include The Sports Reports All-Region first team in 2023 and second-team in 2022; STAC Central All-Division in 2022 and 2023; and All-Tioga County first team in 2022 and 2023.

Doane was also a member of the Section IV Class A runner-up squad in basketball this past winter and she was named to the The Sports Reports All-Region second team. She was also selected to the All-Tioga County first team in 2022-23 and 2023-24, and the STAC Central All-Division in 2023-24.
