SECTION IV TRACK & FIELD: NEWARK VALLEY’S TRUESDAIL DOES IT AGAIN AT STATE QUALIFIER (2024-05-29)

ENDICOTT — Newark Valley’s Dan Truesdail must have a thing about saving the best for last. In 2023, he was the last seed at the Section IV Division II Track & Field Championships in the shot put and placed fourth.

On Wednesday, Day 1 of this year’s state qualifier, he was seeded ninth in Division II (10th overall) in the discus and placed third in D-2 and overall. His heave of 140 feet, 4 inches was well beyond his seed distance of 129-7.

Also placing high in the discus was Owego’s Caleb Hoover, fifth in D-2 and seventh overall with a toss of 126-8.

The River Hawks’ Jaeden King finished fourth in Division II in the 100-meter dash, clocking 11.42 seconds. He was seventh overall and broke his seed time (:11.46).

Spencer-Van Etten’s Karson Kenville took sixth in D-2 (11th overall) in the 110 hurdles preliminaries in 17.29 seconds.

NV’s Jackson Hoover placed seventh in the 800 (17th overall) with a time of 2:04.56.

The Cardinals’ Elijah Williams was eighth in D-2 (13th overall) in the 400 in 53.97 seconds while Candor’s Parker Robinson was right on his heels with a time of 54.11 seconds, good for ninth in D-2 and 14th overall. Both athletes bested their seed times (:54.96 for Williams and :54.29 for Robinson).

Owego’s Adam Llewellyn added a top 10 in the 200 prelims, placing 10th in 24.36 seconds.

In the relays, Owego’s 4x100 was eighth in D2 and 12th overall with a time of 46.01 seconds. S-VE didn’t place in the top 10, but it’s time of 46.65 bettered its seed time of 46.75.

In the pentathlon, NV’s Zion King is in ninth place after three events. His best showing was fourth in the high jump at 1.62 meters (5-3 ⅞). Thursday’s action begins at 5 p.m.
