SECTION IV SOFTBALL: OWEGO FORFEITS CLASS A CHAMPIONSHIP GAME (2024-05-24)

Tioga County Sports Report
OWEGO — The Owego softball team has been forced to forfeit Saturday’s Section IV Class A championship game to Maine-Endwell.

“With many girls traveling for the long weekend, other sports, and flag we do not have enough softball players to play,” Owego athletic director Ryan Hallenbeck said.

“I tried to work with the section to accommodate both championships and offered solutions of different dates and times we could play. We also contacted Section 2 to try to work with changing the flag football time.”

Following an executive session this morning, Halenbeck was informed of the decision.

M-E (10-7) was the top seed while the River Hawks were coming in at 7-7.

According to the National Federation of High Schools rule book, the forfeit goes into the record books as a 2-0 victory for the Spartans.
