ON TAP TODAY: POSTSEASON, CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS TAKE CENTER STAGE (2024-05-15)

Tioga County Sports Report
TIOGA COUNTY — Postseason and conference championship events take center stage with the Section IV flag football playoffs, and the IAC and STAC track & field championships sharing the spotlight.

FLAG FOOTBALL
Vestal (8-3) at Owego (12-0), 7 p.m.: The River Hawks game has been delayed an hour and has also been moved to Tioga, but neither of those factors should affect Owego’s high-powered offense and stalwart defense.

The Golden Bears are one of just two teams to find the end zone more than once against the Section IV Flag Football Conference Division II top seed, losing 24-13 in their regular season meeting.

TRACK & FIELD
Candor, Newark Valley, Spencer-Van Etten at Trumansburg (IAC championships), 4:45 p.m.: Day one of the IAC championships gets underway with some top-level competitors representing Tioga County teams. Owego at Johnson City (STAC championships), 5 p.m.: The competition will be stiff at this meet as the conference does not split its championships based on school size like the IAC does.

GIRLS GOLF
Elmira at Spencer-Van Etten/Candor, 4 p.m.: The Eagles close out the dual match season at Catatonk Creek Golf Course.
