SECTION IV POSTSEASON: TIOGA COUNTY TEAMS FACE A BUSY SCHEDULE (2024-05-14)

Tioga County Sports Report
TIOGA COUNTY — The start of the Section IV postseason is gearing up to be a hectic one for Tioga County athletic teams.

The Newark Valley and Owego boys tennis teams have already completed sectional play while baseball, flag football, lacrosse and softball begin this week. Golf and track & field begin next week.

Here’s a look at the sectional schedule so far.

BASEBALL
Class A: Owego (17-2) is the No. 2 seed behind Maine-Endwell (14-4) and will open double elimination play Friday at home against No. 3 Johnson City (8-12) at 5 p.m.

Win or lose, the River Hawks will play again Monday at 4:30 p.m. at the home of the higher seed.

Windsor (7-10) is the fourth seed.

Class C: Newark Valley (7-8) is seeded eighth and hosts No. 9 Newfield (7-7) Friday at 4:30 p.m.

This is a single elimination tournament and the winner visits top-seeded Union Springs (17-0) Monday at 4:30 p.m.

The Trojans took two of three regular season games from NV.

SOFTBALL
Class A: There are just two teams in this class with M-E (10-7) being No. 1 and Owego seeded second.

They will meet for the championship May 25 at Greenlight Grand Slam Park (formerly BAGSAI) at a time to be determined.

Class B: Spencer-Van Etten/Candor (11-4) is the fifth seed and hosts No. 12 Sidney (10-6) Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in the first round.

The winner visits No. 4 Waverly (10-7) Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

FLAG FOOTBALL
Division II: Top-seeded Owego (11-0 division, 12-0 overall) will host No. 4 Vestal (8-3) Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Tioga.

GIRLS LACROSSE
Owego finished the regular season with an 8-7 record and will face Union-Endicott (10-6) Monday at 6 p.m. at U-E. The winner visits top-seeded Vestal (11-3) next Wednesday in the championship game.

If the River Hawks win, they will host No. 2 Waverly (7-1-3) or No. 3 M-E (9-1-1) Saturday at Tioga at a time to be determined.

TRACK & FIELD
CLass C will be held May 21 at Marathon. Class A/B will take place at Elmira and Class D will be held at Marathon, both on May 22.

BOYS GOLF
The medalist tournament is being held Thursday and Saturday at Mark Twain Golf Course in Elmira. On Monday, Class C will be held at Maple Hill Golf Club in Marathon and Class D will take place at The College Golf Course at Delhi.

GIRLS GOLF
The sectional championships will be held at Soaring Eagles Golf Course on May 23
