IAC BOYS GOLF: CANDOR SWEEPS GROTON, O-M (2024-05-09)

CANDOR — The Candor boys golf team closed out the regular season with a sweep of Groton and Odessa-Montour at Catatonk Creek Golf Course Thursday.

The Coyotes defeated Odessa-Montour, 176-236, while squeaking past the Red Hawks, 176-177.

Against Groton, the Red Hawks’ Connor Eldred claimed the medalist honor with a 1-over-par 37, recording birdies on the par-5 first and fourth holes in the process.

Candor’s Noah Banks and Tyler Greeno posted strong rounds also, each shooting a 39. They would share the medalist honor in the win over O-M. Banks birdied No. 4 and Greeno birdied the par-4 seventh hole.

Rounding out the Coyote’s team scoring were Kody Floyd and Jak Smith, both carding 49s.

The team’s non-scoring members were Jadon Heidl with a 58 and Aiden Jackson with a 68.

In addition to Eldred, the Red Hawks’ received a 43 from Talan O’Connor, a 48 by Gage Seamans and a 49 from Dominic Jump.

Brooke Sovocool and Marley Antrum added non-scoring 53s.

O-M was led by Ethan Nolan with a 57. Riley Yaw contributed a 58, Patrick Croft added a 59 and Brycen Skinner shot 62.

Jacob Carnes had a non-scoring 68.

Candor finished the regular season 4-2 in IAC division play and 8-4 overall. Groton was also 4-2 in division play and slipped to 6-4 overall. Odessa fell to 0-6 and 0-9.

Banks has qualified for the Section IV Medalist Tournament May 16 & 18 at Mark Twain Golf Course.

The Section IV Class D championships will be held May 20 at SUNY Delhi and the IAC championships will take place May 22 at Soaring Eagles in Horseheads.
