HS TRACK & FIELD: NEWARK VALLEY’S HOOVER, BOYS RELAY POST WINS AT SPRING FLING (2024-05-09)

MARATHON — Jackson Hoover won the 800-meter run and the boys 4x400 relay took first at the Spring Fling Track & Field Invitational Wednesday.
Hoover recorded a time of 2:14.83 while the relay quartet of Hoover, Zion King, Logan Rhodes and Elijah Williams clocked 3:51.02.
BOYS
Zion King grabbed a pair of runner-up spots in the long jump (17-8 ½) and the triple jump (36-9 ½).
Rhodes took second in the pole vault, clearing 12 feet, and Williams was second in the 400 hurdles (1:03.56).
Camden King came in third in the 3,000 steeplechase (11:39.96) while Dan Truesdail was third in the shot put (42-0 ¼).
GIRLS
Anika Smith was the runner-up in the 100 (:13.2) and the 200 (:27.95), and cleared eight feet in the pole vault to place third.
Emily LaPorte finished second in the triple jump (30-8) and third in the 400 hurdles (1:21.04).
Harley Switzer captured the second-place spot in the 3,000 (11:51.64).
Adriana Rich took third in the discus (69-11).
The 4x400 was also third (4:58.61).
NV competes in the Parkhurst invitational at Union-Endicott on Saturday.
REK invitational
The throwers relay was not listed in the
MileSplit results, but the Cardinals produced solid efforts.
The boys team of Jack Blomberg, Austin Cottrill, Seth Northrup and Dan Truesdail finished third while the girls quartet of Adriana Rich, Bella King, Ryan Schweckendieck and Malerie Gregrow took fifth.
